Burton Raymond Scholin was born on August 8, 1927. He was introduced to folk dancing in 1962 in the San Francisco Bay Area and got hooked immediately. His interest stretched beyond folk dancing and he served in several positions in the Folk Dance Federation in Northern California. These included chairing the Statewide Folk Dance Festival two times, acting as President of the East Bay Council for two years, and serving three terms as the President of the Folk Dance Federation of California, Inc.

In addition to all of this, Burt taught folk dance in Northern California for around eight years. He taught one-night stands for several years at the Freshman Orientation week at Cal State Hayward and at the annual meetings of the Russian Orthodox Church in Danville. He also organized and performed with folk dance groups, doing shows for church groups, senior groups, and service organizations.

Therese Scholin 1992 Burt met his wife, Therese, at the 1987 Statewide Folk Dance Festival in 1987. Since then they've been equally involved in sharing the pleasure of dance with others, teaching at the UCLA Conferenece Center at Lake Arrowhead and the West Valley Folk Dance Club. According to Burt, "We live by the motto of Charles Schultz' Snoopy -- To live is to dance; to dance is to live."

Burt has served as Vice President and President of the Folk Dance Federation of California, South, Inc. He also has taught the Dance on the Water cruises offered by Mel Mann.

Therese Scholin began folk dancing as a 12-year old in an adult group in Northern California. For years, her dancing was limited to ballroom and ethnic polka dances.

Therese spent many years teaching folk dancing to children as an elementary school teacher in Northern California. In about 1972, she discovered the West Valley Folk Dancers in Woodland Hills.

When they came South for the 1987 Statewide Festival in Pasadena, she met Burt. The couple married and moved to Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino Mountains. There, they formed a beginner's folk dance group, and occasionally taught dancing at the UCLA Conference Center in Lake Arrowhead.

In December of 1991, the couple introduced folk dancing at the Sands International Dance Festival in Las Vegas to a number of the 5,000 people attending.

Burt passed away died June 24, 2020, preceded by his Wife, Therese.
