Tamás Szappanos is one of Hungary's most knowledgeable researchers, dancers, and choreographers. He has been with the Hungarian State Ensemble since the age of 17, when he joined in 1981. In addition to being a solo dancer, choreographer, and teacher, he was one of the youngest assistant directors in the company's history.

Tamás conducted the original research on Mezőkölpényi and introduced the material to Hungary. He is also well-respected for his research on Bonchidai, as well as a number of other dances. Since 1983, Tamás and his wife Krisztina Baji have taught dance to people of all ages and abilities throughout Europe and elsewhere.

Dances Tamás and Krisztina have taught include Bonchidai Dance Cycle and Mezőkölpényi Dance Cycle.
