Sandy Tepfer

Sanford S. "Sandy" Tepfer taught English country dance and American rounds. He was born March 24, 1918 and graduated from the college of the City of New York in 1938. He received his MS degree in history from Cornell University in 1939,
He held short-term jobs before joining the U. S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC.
He married Bertha Fliess in May of 1942, then was drafted in October of the same year. He was discharged in February of 1946. He entered the graduate school of the University of California at Berkeley and earned a Ph.D. degree in botany in 1950. He taught one year at Oregon College of Education and spent the rest of his academic career at the University of Oregon, eventually with the rank of professor of biology and serving as the Biology Department head from 1967 to 1978.
Sandy enjoyed folk dancing, hiking, and skiing, and was active in the Sierra Club for which he served as director for 12 years.
Sandy taught at the California College of the Pacific Folk Dance Camp (now Stockton Folk Dance Camp) in 1948 and 1950.
Dances Sandy taught include Arkansas Traveler, Happy Valley Reel, Hulls Victory, Lady Walpole's Reel, Land of the Lake, Money Musk, Petranella, Paul Jones, The Girl I Left Behind Me, The Tempest, Timber Salvage Reel, and Virginia Reel.
