The Finjan International Folk Dance Group was formed by Israel Yakovee. It's several purposes were:
- Members will be able to commiunicate and express freely all subject related to IFD matters around the world.
- Members will be informed as to what is being communicated on the Israeli chat group on subjects that relate to the group in both Hebrew and English.
- Members will be asked to correspond in a polite manner with each other.
- Members will please use constructive criticism when expressing themselves.
The group was open to anyone who wanted to join. The dancers could use their real name or a dance-related name.
Israel provided teachers, free of charge, with the music, DVDs, and song words to the dances that they would teach. He also would help dancers to find a place to dance anywhere in the world when they traveled.
All he asked was that they share their personal experiences by sending one or more pictures and/or writing articles.
